WARLORDS IV STORY

Epilogue: The Calm Before
Where the harsh range of mountains known as the Wall gives way
to more gentle foothills, one can stand and see the whole of the
Agarian plains. In the summer, though the air is hot, the mountain
breeze is cool, and it blows golden waves across the many fields.
All the many sites of battles are hidden beneath those waves,
all the weapons and bodies gone, marked by weathered monuments
in whose shade the field-hands rest.
There is a peace upon those lands, so fragile and dreamlike that
one pounding hoof, one clanging sword, could shatter it. But peace
it is, full of the tiny hopes and daily joy of thousands of men
and women, living their lives as best they can.
One such man and one such woman are walking down those hills,
bound for Marthos with the dire portents of coming war. But for
now, the rest remain happy and ignorant. The man and the woman
say nothing to those they pass, save greetings and remarks on
the weather and crops. Peace is too good a thing, and should last
as long as it may. But the two cannot forget what comes, and in
their hearts, they know that peasant scythe and pitchfork will
soon be turned to different work.
Still, the sun shines and the cool breeze blows, and a for a moment,
the two share in the peace, and know happiness.
